Parkinson’s disease: Powerful preventative & treatment measures

Parkinson’s disease: Powerful preventative & treatment measures

As we say in Texas, Dr. Steenblock has “cored the apple” with respect to Parkinson’s disease:

“Parkinson’s patients have immune and detoxification problems compared to healthy people of the same age. They have exaggerated inflammatory responses to bacterial and fungal infections which may be due to the amounts of heavy metals like copper, iron, mercury and lead in their brain, intestinal tract and the rest of their body.  These metals accumulate in these people for a variety of reasons some of which are from environmental exposures including excessive consumption of heavy-metals sequestering fish and in some genetic issues and problems that together facilitate increased absorption of these heavy metals as well as intestinal bacteria and their cell wall components. Endotoxins and Bacteria derived peptide (fMLP) have been found to be toxic to dopamine neurons and cause selective dopamine neuron loss at very low levels- the type of levels that can be produced from straining to pass stool, poor dental care and from consuming too many salted nuts and seeds, refined sugars, acid foods, alcohol and other intestinal tract damaging substances that allow these bacterial and fungal poisons to migrate through the intestinal wall into the blood stream. From the blood, these endotoxins and bacteria derived peptides are picked up from the blood by the astroglia that line the brain’s blood vessels and whose function (in part) includes protecting delicate neurons from these toxins.  These poisons stimulate the blood-brain-barrier astroglia to make free radicals that cause damage to the nearby dopamine producing cells (and this by using up the free radical-scavenging glutathione normally present within astroglia that is needed to detoxify chemical poisons generated by internal metabolic processes or which enter the body from outside sources.)”

OK, so now you have insight into part of the disease process that gives rise to and fuels Parkinson’s disease. Where can you find out about other players? And what can you do to counter these “monkey wrenches in the cogs” or, where Parkinson’s disease already exists, remediate or even reverse it? One good place to start is this article: http://www.stemcellmd.org/?page_id=389 In it you will read about what powerful therapeutic measures for PD including the use of your own stem cell-rich bone marrow. Reversing Parkinson’s disease now

Parkinson's disease and stem cellsReversing Parkinson’s disease now

Recently research teams in South Korea and at Harvard Medical School (Belmont) in the US carried out some compelling experiments that showed that stem cells created (induced) from various body cells in mice that were then implanted in the brains of animal models of Parkinson’s disease produced clear benefits. The scientists created the stem cells by direct delivery of 4 reprogramming proteins fused to a cell penetrating peptide into various somatic (body) cells including newborn fibroblasts (A technique discussed in this paper.) This groundbreaking research is laid out in this brief lay-level article that appeared on the ScienceDaily web site on May 16 (2011):  Stem Cells Reverse Disease in a Model of Parkinson’s Disease (Those who wish to peruse the full paper should click this link. )

Naturally, it will take many years for this line of work to move from the lab to the clinic. However, stem cell therapy for PD exists now — here in the USA — at Dr. David Steenblock’s Clinic. Dr. Steenblock has, in fact, made many inroads in understanding the players in PD and reversing the underlying pathology which you can learn about by accessing these free on-line articles and presentations:

Dr. Steenblock’s Comprehensive Stem Cell Treatment Method

stem cellsThe stem cells in your bone marrow helps keep you healthy day-in and day-out.

But when injury or disease strikes, these stem cells rush to the damaged or diseased tissues and facilitate healing and restoration. Not unexpectedly aging saps the vitality of these stem cells.  Dr. David Steenblock, in fact, found clear evidence that the marrow of older folks contains lots of stem cells that tend to be “sluggish” or devitalized, while the bone marrow of people under 40 contains more robust ones. Acting on this discovery, he set out to develop new therapies to “revitalize” the bone marrow of people over the age of forty. This background will help you better understand this better:

Each of us has in the hollows of our bones both red bone marrow tissue and yellow fat. When we are children our bones are full of active healthy bone marrow that is growing and releasing healthy stem cells 24/7 year round. This is the reason why children can heal so much better than older people.

As we get older our bodies make less new tissue including that in our bones, and as a result there is a shift in the amount of red bone marrow to fat present. This decrease in the quantity of stem cell-rich red bone marrow in our bones is one reason healing and repair is slower and less efficient. Interestingly, Dr Steenblock observed that older folks who hike in the high mountains or donate blood tend to have healthier, more abundant red bone marrow than their less active peers. This is due to that fact that exertion at high altitudes as well as blood donation creates a state of hypoxia or oxygen deprivation in the body. This prompted Dr. Steenblock to add Intermittent Hypoxia Therapy to his bone marrow revitalization approach.

In addition, the bone marrow in people with Parkinson’s disease or dementia has diminished in quantity and quality to the point that a great many of the cells have entered into state called “senescence”. They are in-a-word too old to do anything but sit in-place and take up space. To offset this Dr. Steenblock tried prodding the body to mobilize these tired old stem cells into the patient’s blood stream by use of some hormones called colony stimulating factors. He figured once these devitalized cells had left the bone marrow new, healthier stem cells would be created to replace them.  And this is exactly what he found! Indeed, Dr. Steenblock discovered that in two weeks time patient bone marrow had produced upwards of 10 times more healthy stem cells than were present prior to the injection of colony stimulating factors!

Over time Dr. Steenblock added other things to his comprehensive stem cell revitalizing approach and tested this on patients. The clinical responses seen were far superior to what had been seen in older folks given simple whole bone marrow transplants, i.e., marrow was harvested and given back without pre- or post- transplant use of Intermittent Hypoxia Therapy, CSF injections, etc. Many also experienced anti-aging effects like better skin color, a healthier “glow” and fewer wrinkles

After Dr. Steenblock was satisfied with his improved or enhanced bone marrow transplant method he then pushed the envelope by added the use of fat derived stem cells (by themselves and in combination with bone marrow.) So far the clinical results have been very impressive, even dramatic! You will find some of these patient accounts on www.strokedoctor.com as well as www.stemcell.MD.

Progress at Dr. Steenblock’s Clinic

Dr. SteenblockProgress at Dr. Steenblock’s Clinic

Genuine progress is being made on a daily basis at Dr. Steenblock’s clinic. Part of the “why” behind this lies in Dr. Steenblock’s drive to fix things and make things better, a trait instilled in him as a boy growing up on a farm in Iowa.

This pursuit has paid off handsomely for Dr. Steenblock’s patients. For instance, many who’ve been struggling with various chronic diseases like Parkinson’s disease are enjoying clinical improvements that,.…well…..simply weren’t suppose to occur. Many of these, in fact, made their way to Dr. Steenblock’s Clinic after being told by their own doctors that all that could be done had been and they would, in effect, have to live with their pain, tremors, discomfort, and such.  Thankfully they did not consider this the final word on the matter!

So what is Dr. Steenblock doing that is pushing the healing envelope, sometimes dramatically so?  Here is but one example:

As we age the stem cells in our bone marrow lose some of their vitality, which compromises their ability to participate in keeping us well.  This is especially true of folks over the age of forty (40.) What Dr. Steenblock figured out is how to get the body to replace these “sluggish” aged stem cells with healthy ones. He then harvests the bone marrow and gives it back to patients by intravenous (IV) drip. You can read all about this in November-December issue of his clinic newsletter. You can access this for FREE by just clicking this link.

Isn’t progress grand?!?

“Make the Best, Better”

bone marrow stem cellsHow do new medical discoveries come about? Sometimes thorough sheer determination to make things better! Case-in-point: As a farm boy member of the 4-H Dr. Steenblock took their motto, “Make the Best, Better” to heart and made it his motif as he considered new angles on treating the many diseases and medical conditions that routinely crossed his path each day. One recent example: Dr. Steenblock observed that oftentimes the bone marrow of older people does not have what it takes to effect healing; stems cells in it are, in fact, sluggish and, well…..old. They “drag” rather than “hop to it” when it comes to answering the call to heal and restore diseased or damaged tissue. On-the-other-hand, stem cells in the bone marrow of people under 40 is typically vital enough to readily facilitate healing. The challenge for Dr. Steenblock (then) was to find a way to “revitalize” the bone marrow of people over the age of forty. To make them better.

As Dr. Steenblock pondered “old” bone marrow stem cells, it occurred to him that mobilizing large numbers of these “grandpa-grandma” cells from the marrow should prompt the marrow to create new, likely more vibrant replacements. To test this theory he came up with a combined drug and applied medical technology protocol that included the injection of a specific FDA approved colony stimulating factor drug for five consecutive days. What he discovered was that patient stem cell numbers shot up to as much as 10 times what has been true prior to their course of treatment! And when he harvested this numerically superior stem cell-rich bone marrow and gave it back to patients by IV, their healing response was consistent with what he saw in much younger folks. Of course, the sheer gain in stem cell numbers likely accounts for some of this, though Dr. Steenblock is convinced the increased healing curve also reflects gains in stem cell vigor or vitality.
