What can hyperbaric oxygen & stem cells do? Check out Andrew Burkhart’s story on Positively Positive and find out!

ANDREW BUCKHART - PRAY FOR ANDREWAndrew Burkhart is a little boy with cerebral palsy who has reaped tremendous benefits from various CAM (complementary-alternative medicine) treatments plus some leading edge care at Dr. Steenblock’s Clinic that has included hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and stem cell-rich bone marrow aspirate injections. Two NBC station affiliates, channel 4 in Los Angeles and channel 12 in Phoenix (AZ), have run stories on Andrew’s journey to improved functioning. Now, Positively Positive has posted quite a powerful article on Andrew by his mother, Kellie Burkhart, which you can access by going to http://bit.ly/ZYsfh1. Make sure to check out the links at the bottom of the posted story.

The same treatments that have helped Andrew have also produced great clinical improvements in other children and young people with cerebral palsy, as well as folks wrestling with multiple sclerosis, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), Parkinson’s disease, chronic stroke, and a host of other vexing conditions. Scientific findings say stem cell healing for neurologic problems is coming. Clinical results suggest it is already here!

stem cellsStem Cells for Neurological Disorders

Recently, scientists at the Gladstone Institutes transformed skin cells into interconnected, functional brain cells using a single genetic factor. You can read about this by clicking this link: http://bit.ly/LvQ3n4 Interestingly, in a 2003 paper South Korean researchers shared how neurons and astrocytes prod neural stem cells in the brain to become neurons and astrocytes. This paper, titled ”Neurons and astrocytes secrete factors that cause stem cells to differentiate into neurons and astrocytes”, appeared in  Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience, Volume 23, Issue 3, July 2003, Pages 414–426. You can access the abstract by clicking this link: http://bit.ly/KhcptR

These scientific works bear testimony that we are moving closer to understanding how to create neurons and other cells in the body’ nervous systems (central, peripheral, and enteric) and even get them to hook up and work normally. However, the question must be asked: When bone marrow derived stem cells, especially the very biologically versatile mesenchymal stem cell, are infused into the human CNS (Central Nervous System) does it respond to growth factors secreted by neurons and astrocytes (e.g., brain-derived neurotrophic factor and neurotrophin-3 secreted by neurons, and ciliary neurotrophic growth factor expressed by astrocytes) in ways that encourage healing and restoration?  At the clinical evidence level the answer is “yes”; that is, the sometimes impressive responses of people with ALS, MS, cerebral palsy and a host of other neurological maladies to infusions of bone marrow stem cells and stem cell-rich bone marrow (Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate or BMAC such as Dr. Steenblock harvests from patients and uses to treat them) certainly suggests this is the case. No, this is definitive proof in the hard scientific sense but it is suggestive that there is “smoke” in this particular “woodpile”.

Dr. Steenblock has, in fact, seen such consistently good responses to BMAC infusions in people with cerebral palsy and joint issues that he took the unprecedented step of offering those with these conditions treated by him or his medical team their money back if their doctors could find no evidence of clinical benefit.

If you have a neurologic challenge be it chronic stroke, ALS, MS, cerebral palsy, etc. or a joint problem or other vexing physical malady perhaps you should check out what Dr. Steenblock is doing. One way is to visit his various web sites and do some reading: www.strokedoctor.com, www.stemcellmd.org, www.davidsteenblock.com, and www.cerebralpalsycure.com. After you’ve done this and are satisfied there is something in all this for you, your next step should be to call Dr. Steenblock’s Clinic and set up a no cost consultation: 1-800-300-1063 (9 am to 5 pm Pacific Time, M-F).

Multiple Sclerosis: Dr. Steenblock’s “Whole Person” Approach

MS Multiple SclerosisMultiple Sclerosis (MS): Dr. Steenblock’s “Whole Person” Approach

If you or a loved one are among the 30,000 Americans with MS, reflect for a moment on what your principle physician has done so far to help you manage your condition. Most likely he has prescribed drugs to help reduce inflammation and symptom severity, plus perhaps a “healthy diet,” exercise program and possibly physical and other therapies. There is no question but that these approaches have helped many MS sufferers “muddle through,” though often with side effects and complications. Dr. Steenblock on-the-other-hand takes a more comprehensive or “whole body” approach to MS. Among the things he employs to help MS patients realize substantial clinical improvements that stick around:

(1) Identify and eradicate any infections, allergies and other contributors to inflammation including those in the GI track, gums or elsewhere.

(2) Test for toxic, tissue-damaging heavy metals and then remove any that are present in high amounts by means of IV chelation therapy.

(3) Identify and implement the best ways to foster repair of the MS patient’s leaky blood-brain barrier and remyelination of their demyelinated nerves. Among the many innovative treatment approaches that are part of Dr. Steenblock’s clinical repertoire:

(a) Dietary & Nutritional measures geared to reduce neuroinflammation and provide the body with what it needs to combat the MS autoimmune process, as well as repair and restore disease-ravaged tissues.

(b) Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT): HBOT helps reduce inflammation in the Central Nervous System (CNS) and increases oygen to diseased and hypoxic (oxygen-starved) tissues.

( c ) External counterpulsation (EECP): This noninvasive medical device painlessly and safely pushes blood from a patient’s legs and trunk to his heart, which results in better circulation. Although the FDA has only approved EECP to treat angina and congestive heart failure, Dr. Steenblock has found it to benefit MS patients when used in concert with HBOT (See b. above).

(d) Intravenous therapies: Many have similar effects to what you’ll find under (a) above, but work much quicker than dietary measures and supplements.

(e) Whole bone marrow transplants: Bone marrow contains stem cells that have been shown to help dampen the MS autoimmune attack on myelin and promote remyelination of demyelinated nerves. You will find some of these studies on http://www.stemcelltherapies.org/umresearch/ms-research2.html.

(f) Referrals to Mexico for treatment with adult (nonembryonic) stem cells: Dr. Steenblock serves as a medical and scientific consultant to various adult (nonembryonic) stem cell medicine programs in Mexico, and in this capacity has accumulated a lot of information and documentation concerning the responses of MS patients to treatment with stem cells isolated from umbilical cord blood, placenta, amnion and other donor tissues. Some of these findings with respect to MS can be found in “Umbilical Cord Stem Cell Therapy: The Gift of Healing from Healthy Newborns” (Call 1-800-300-1063 to purchase a copy.)  When he feels an MS patient would benefit from a specific stem cell treatment available in Mexico (but not the USA), he will make a referral to the program offering this.
