Alex Sees Amazing Results Treating Cerebral Palsy with Stem Cells!

Our patient Alex came to Dr. Steenblock & Dr. Thermos for stem cell treatments to help treat his cerebral palsy. Watch his testimonial here and find out how he was able to go from a wheelchair to using a walker, have improvements with his speech, coordination and much more!

EDTA Chelation Therapy Benefits

Chelation IV TherapyThink EDTA chelation therapy only reduces elevated metal levels in the human body?  Think again!  Despite the popular opinion of the world of western medicine, there exists literally hundreds of scientific studies promoting the use of EDTA for not only heavy metal toxicity, but a plethora of other health benefits (500+ Chelation Studies, n.d.). Some of them include: anti-aging effects through increased NO (nitric oxide) levels that relaxes blood vessels and also triggers stem cells‘ differentiation; resuscitates cell’s mitochondria resulting in the production of more ATP and overall more energy; cosmetic changes such as more lustrous hair, added eye sparkle, stronger unsplit nails, better skin color, texture and tone, fewer visible wrinkles, lightened age spots, and overall a more youthful appearance; improved taste, hearing, and vision; helps to prevent or reverse arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) by reducing the free radical generating toxic metals and stimulating parathyroid hormone (PTH) activity, resulting in the removal of calcium and plaque buildup; rejuvenates the whole cardiovascular system through the aforementioned mechanisms; reduces the damaging effects of EMP (electro-magnetic field) as this radiation is more destructive the higher the metal levels are in the body; elevates the effectiveness of antibiotics, as well as provide its own antibiotic effects through its ability to disrupt bacterial biofilms; strong anti-fungal effect due to the interaction between Candida and toxic heavy metals; restores the healthy, normal distribution of essential nutritional minerals and metallic elements (chromium, cobalt, zinc, etc.) within cells; rebalances hormones because without the proper distribution and right amount of minerals (blocked also by the accumulation of toxic metals), vitamins are useless, enzymes cannot function properly and certain hormones become out of balance; important before any stem cell treatment to detoxify bone marrow, stem cells, and target organs;  helps relieve symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease and Autism (Get the most out of chelation, n.d., para. 1-20), (Cranton, E.M., 2013)…the list goes on! So, next time you’re in to see your doctor, you might want to check into this amazing therapy. There are few contraindications, few side effects when done properly, and the benefits might just be “what the doctor ordered” for you!

Patient Sees Incredible Results After Suffering from a Stroke, Heart Attack and Atrial Fibrillation!

Treatment for StrokeWe had a 55 Year old Male in the office a few months ago that had previously developed problems with his Heart – after a Heart attack, he developed a ‘Rhythm’ problem (Atrial Fibrillation) with his Heart as well, and as a result of the new issue he created a blood clot in his heart that went up into the Left side of his Brain, causing an Ischemic Stroke.  He now had 3 Major problems to deal with – his previous Heart Attack, the Heart Rhythm Problem (Atrial Fibrillation – he is now on Coumadin), and then the Stroke which left him with some Right Sided weakness, most profoundly in his Right Arm which was rendered essentially useless to him.

After getting nowhere further in Physical Rehabilitation, a couple of years later he called our office with the hope that Stem Cell Therapy could help him.  He fatigued easily, had no function of his Right Arm and had problems with his Right Leg ‘weakness’.  Our workup showed that he also had a significant amount of Heavy Metals which he was able to Chelate (taking some oral capsules to purge his body of the Heavy Metals), and some significant problems with his GI tract.  The GI problems would affect his absorption and would definitely create problems with the Stem Cells if we had just given them to him.  Instead, we placed him on a low Carbohydrate diet, some Pro-Biotics, and an oral Anti-Fungal prescription.

He came to the office hopeful – and we performed an Autologous (self)  Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplant with him.  He went home and diligently worked in therapy.  I had spoken to his wife today – and she said that he made great progress in his stamina, and his Right Arm has made great strides with movement and strength.  Motion at the wrist / hand was greatly improved, but there is still residual weakness in the movement / grip of his fingers.  He’d made tremendous progress!

He will continue with therapy (which he had failed BEFORE the Stem Cell Transplant) to work on his Arm and Leg.  He is continuing with the Stemgevity (to stimulate further Stem Cell production) and the Pro-Biotics.  Once he ceases to make further progress, we may again pursue further BMSCT therapy – as it has given him so much hope and progress.

It’s stories like this that are so ‘heartening’, for someone to work so hard and make progress after being told “. . . nothing further can be done . . .” he now looks forward to the years ahead and have a better QUALITY of life in the future.

The Amazing Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Hyperbaric Oxygen TherapyHyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) works just as its name implies, hyper meaning more of, baric meaning pressure and oxygen. Treatment involves simply breathing up to 100% oxygen while inside a chamber which is pressurized to a pressure above one atmosphere. The treatment is so simple patients from all ages are eligible and most either relax and watch TV or take a nap during treatment!

By breathing oxygen under pressure your body absorbs it at a rate unequivocal to breathing O2 at just ambient room pressure, you literally become saturated with O2, one of the mechanisms of this occurs by the oxygen not needing hemoglobin (an iron binding compound within blood that transports O2) to transport it through the body and it is dissolved directly into the blood plasma this effect has only been observed breathing O2 under pressure.

In America we have just barely utilized this amazing modality in a medical setting with only fourteen accepted indications for HBOT. Other countries for example Russia currently have over sixty accepted indications for HBOT. Unfortunately if you are a patient with a condition other than the fourteen indications your use of HBOT is considered off-label and you are obliged to pay out of pocket for your treatment.

One of these off-label areas that has seen a remarkable improvement is Developmental Delay in children especially Autism. Countless children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have seen life changing improvements in as little as month’s worth of treatment. Studies in this field showed positive results in physiology, behavioral, as well as cognitive. It works on by treating the entire body and affects many different issues these kids have. With ASD most children have been burdened with a toxic load of mercury and or lead.

HBOT is a powerful antioxidant and helps the body to clear out all these toxins out of the body and even the brain. Most ASD children suffer with chronic fungal and or bacterial infections and HBOT helps knock these out because HBOT is bacteriostatic and fungicidal. HBOT has also shown to promote neurogenesis (formation of nervous tissues) and produce new brain cells, which was previously thought impossible.

There are so many benefits it would be impossible to list them all in this article so I will leave you a testimonial from one of our patients parents, “ Our son Luke is high functioning and just completed his 27th treatment this morning. Luke participates in an ABA program at home and has a shadow at preschool. What I have noticed since starting his therapy is that all four of Luke’s therapists have reported that Luke’s behaviors have diminished significantly and he is more compliant. My husband and I believe the HBOT therapy has helped Luke increase his speech and language skills. We plan to complete 40 treatments as recommended.”

Hormones & Energy Problems?

The prior weekend I went to the Restorative Medicine Conference held in San Diego for an update as to what new thoughts there are in Integrative Medicine with regard to Hormone BalancingDr’s Braunstein and Wilson gave particularly interesting talks about treating Thyroid related issues.  Dr. Braunstein cited all the literature and the current testing methods available to point to the fact that the United States – as a Country – is generally deficient in Iodine.  Iodine is necessary for Thyroid Hormone production, and also provides some ‘protection’ against aggressive Breast Disease.  Interesting . . . with all the ‘PINK RIBBONS’ floating around, I have never once heard anyone in traditional Medicine speak of the importance of Iodine / Iodide in the relationship to Breast Disease.

As well, the counterpart to the Thyroid in the body’s regulation of energy levels is the Adrenal Gland, as they compensate for one another with regularity – i.e. a deficiency in one will be compensated for by the function of the other, etc.  However, the Adrenal Gland is very much under appreciated and under diagnosed/treated when dysfunction arises.  All too often it is missed – as it is just not thought of.  There are a variety of methods of looking at the Adrenal Gland Hormones and Neurotransmitters – from a ‘timed’ blood draw, to a 4 part saliva test to look at Cortisol levels in a 24 hour time frame.  Looking at Neurotransmitters  with a simple Urine Test (as the Adrenal Gland is actually connected and transmits messages via Neurotransmitters – just like the Nervous System) can indicate areas of dysfunction related to Chronic Pain, Depression, Chronic Fatigue, etc.

As in everything in this life – ‘BALANCE’ is what is important.  So many people are walking around fatigued and out of sorts – when some simple (previously undone) testing can get to the root of (or at least in part address) so many functional problems.  The tests are simple, and painless.  Integrative and Restorative Medicine has come a long way in the ability to detect things with simple tests – and finding the problem is the key to Restoring the body back to ‘BALANCE’ – using Nutrition, Herbs, Minerals, and Bio-Identical Hormone replacement to get the job done.

Out of treatment options or just need better ones?

Girl Holding PlantDr. David Steenblock has practiced medicine for over 40 years and has devoted his career to trying and testing various combinations of therapies and treatments to elicit a healing response in patients who by-and-large are saddled with intractable and even terminal medical diseases and conditions that were not responsive to conventional medical treatments, or were for a time and then ceased being so. Among the many things he has tried in various forms and combinations down through the years are hyperbaric oxygen (He was among the first doctors in the world to try HBOT on acute stroke. It worked fabulously!), heavy metals IV chelation therapy, low fat diets to halt and even reverse coronary artery disease (since 1966 actually), and most recently the harvesting of patient’s own stem cell rich bone marrow and then its infusion back into their bodies by primarily intravenous (IV) means.

The treatment regimens Dr. Steenblock prescribes are sometimes expensive and typically not covered by insurance or such.  Not surprisingly some patients go into treatment having filtered out all Dr. Steenblock’s admonitions and caveats concerning the experimental nature of their agreed to course of treatment, then complain bitterly if their treatment results do not measure up to what they thought or assumed was supposed to be the case.

You might be tempted to say, “Well, why do this out-of-the-box medical stuff anyway? It sounds like a high risk-low return sort of thing. Why not leave this sort of work to researchers in major universities and government funded institutions?” The simple fact is that many medical discoveries and innovations would not have seen the light of day of it were not for individual practitioners “doing their (experimentation) thing.” In fact, it is no secret that many original medical ideas and trailblazing new spins on treating disease begin with a single doctor’s “tinkering.”

In Dr. Steenblock’s case, he has accrued some sometimes impressive case histories of turnarounds that involve novel off-label treatments and combinations of treatments (Click to access informational & patient testimony videos on YouTube). Many of his regimens produced profound clinical improvements that were subsequently replicated in many other patients with similar medical issues, while in some instances only a subset of patients got better (Something possibly linked to shared genetic features among those who did respond favorably.) He has also come up with some unique spins on the cause of some chronic diseases, something informed not just by his keen powers of observation and decades of medical experience, but also by years he spent working as a pathologist (Pathologists being “medical detectives” who are experts in figuring out the “who done it” behind causes of disease and death.)

And like all research-oriented clinicians or experimentalists, Dr. Steenblock has had his share of non-responders. He has also had treatment approaches he devised bomb out. In such instances he has revised and retested them. Those that did not produce results no matter what, he abandoned.

Starting in February of this year (2013), Dr. Steenblock began reducing his clinical load in order to take part in stem cell R & D work going on at his namesake nonprofit research institute (Steenblock Research Institute) in San Clemente, CA.  As part of this shift in his focus Alexander Thermos, D.C., D.O., affiliated with his clinic and was trained by Dr. Steenblock in his many innovative techniques & procedures including use of stem cell-rich bone marrow (aspirate).  You can watch a brief (6m10s) video on Dr. Thermos including his education and military service (former USAF officer & flight surgeon*) by clicking this link:

If you have a medical condition or chronic disease that has not responded to conventional or standard medical care or has but your doctors tell you no more improvements are likely to occur, who will you turn to (Clinical trials notwithstanding which are great though many people find that do not meet inclusion criteria)? Doctors who will likely tell you the same thing you’ve been told previously? Or should you see medical innovators such as Drs. Steenblock & Thermos who do the sort of informed “in-office experimentation” that history shows is a crucial driving force in producing genuine medical progress?

A message from Dr. Thermos (former flight surgeon, USAF) to veterans with service-related injuries

Dr Thermos stadning beside open HBOT chamberAs a USAF flight surgeon Dr. Thermos was blessed to be assigned to Offutt AFB / Ehrling Bergquist Hospital.  While practicing medicine he enrolled in the School of Aerospace Medicine (SAM) course taught in San Antonio (Texas).  Dr. Thermos did this, in part, because he was intrigued with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in the treatment of service-related injuries,
As a result of this Dr. Thermos pursued additional HBOT training through the International ATMO, a course taught at NIX Hospital (San Antonio) by the developers of theUSAF Hyperbaric Treatment and Training Program

In his use of HBOT Dr. Thermos has seen near miraculous results in specific situations, such as:
    1)  Non-Healing Wounds
    2)  Non-Healing Fractures
    3)  Non-Healing wounds with bone infection (Osteomyelitis)
    4)  Stroke / CVA including ischemic (clot) and post-bleed
    5)  Parkinson’s disease
    6)  Chronic pain syndromes (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, etc.)
    7)  Peripheral Vascular disease problems/non-healing wounds

HBOT also enhances and stimulates the release of stem cells to aid bodily repair and restoration (Journal of Circulation 2005)
Dr. Thermos states that “We have a tragedy brewing with our returning veterans, that of closed head injuries as a result of the tremendous shock that their bodies experience as a result of the explosive trauma that they have been exposed to.  The Wounded Warrior Project is in its infancy, and one of my goals will be to get some of our veterans help through hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and STEM CELL therapy (BMSCT) to help repair their injured brains and bodies.”

NEJM editor states it is “No longer possible to believe much of clinical research published”

One of the criticisms aimed at CAM (complementary-alternative medicine)-Functional Medicine-Holistic Medicine practitioners by skeptics are that they largely ignore or downplay studies that show little or no efficacy for their favorite treatment or modality. And, yes, some CAM practices have failed to garner evidence they really do what is claimed for them in well designed & executed studies and proponents have ignored or downplayed this. Others have been validated and entered mainstream medicine while others may yet do so. With this said, critics who delight in savaging problematic CAM procedures and pet theories, typically follow this by pointing out that medical consumers should only trust drugs, practices, techniques, devices and such that have been substantiated in rigorous clinical studies (Randomized clinical studies). However, so many studies have been exposed as flawed and even riddled with fraud, that even mainstream or conventional doctors are left wondering which ones to trust. A former editor of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) recently stated that it is “No longer possible to believe much of clinical research published” (A very well written article on this by Carolyn “The Ethical Nag” Thomas follows below).

What should medical consumers do? Given the corrupting influence of big pharmaceutical firms on research and drug approval and the many pharmaceuticals that were approved and then withdrawn on the heels of patient use horror stories, many folks are turning to CAM practitioners. It appears, however, that most are not vesting their trust in just any old CAM healthcare provider, but rather in MDs and DOs (osteopathic physicians) who not only know which natural products or compounds are scientifically validated or likely to be validated, but have extensive hands-on experience in getting sick people well using gentle but effective natural supplements and botanic drugs. Some, like former USAF flight surgeon and CAM physician Alexander Thermos, have extensive training and experience combining natural remedies with leading edge medical treatments such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy and wholly legal stem cell therapies (Bone marrow aspirate treatments). They have, in short, figured out what works by doing years of in-office and sometime off-label use and experimentation.

NEJM editor: “No longer possible to believe much of clinical research published”

Posted on November 9, 2009 by Carolyn Thomas

Harvard Medical School’s Dr. Marcia Angell is the author of The Truth About the Drug Companies: How They Deceive Us and What to Do About It. But more to the point, she’s also the former Editor-in-Chief at the New England Journal of Medicine, arguably one of the most respected medical journals on earth. But after reading her article in the New York Review of Books called Drug Companies & Doctors: A Story of Corruption, one wonders if any medical journal on earth is worth anybody’s respect anymore.

“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.”

Dr. Angell cites the case of Dr. Joseph L. Biederman, professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and chief of pediatric psychopharmacology at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital. She explains:

“Thanks largely to him, children as young as two years old are now being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and treated with a cocktail of powerful drugs, many of which were not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for that purpose, and none of which were approved for children below ten years of age.”

Biederman’s own studies of the drugs he advocates to treat childhood bipolar disorder were, as The New York Times summarized the opinions of its expert sources, “so small and loosely designed that they were largely inconclusive.”

In June 2009, an American senate investigation revealed that drug companies, including those that make drugs he advocates for childhood bipolar disorder, had paid Biederman $1.6 million in “consulting” and “speaking” fees between 2000 and 2007.

“Two of Biederman’s colleagues received similar amounts. After the revelation, the president of the Massachusetts General Hospital and the chairman of its physician organization sent a letter to the hospital’s physicians expressing not shock over the enormity of the conflicts of interest, but sympathy for the beneficiaries: “We know this is an incredibly painful time for these doctors and their families, and our hearts go out to them.”

Biederman’s failure to disclose his Big Pharma payments to his employers ar Harvard (as is required for all Harvard employees) has been under investigation* for the past two years by Harvard Medical School, in as journalist Alison Bass describes this: “what must be the longest investigation in that school’s history”).

Dr. Angell’s article contains bombshell after bombshell, all gleaned during her tenure as NEJM editor. For example, on the subject of doctors who are bought and paid for by Big Pharma, she writes:

“No one knows the total amount provided by drug companies to physicians, but I estimate from the annual reports of the top 9 U.S.-based drug companies that it comes to tens of billions of dollars a year in North America alone.By such means, the pharmaceutical industry has gained enormous control over how doctors evaluate and use its own products. Its extensive ties to physicians, particularly senior faculty at prestigious medical schools, affect the results of research, the way medicine is practiced, and even the definition of what constitutes a disease.”

Revelations like this from medical profession insiders cast serious doubt on more than what’s printed on the pages of these medical journals.

Your physician reads these journals, treatment decisions are changed, care is affected, drugs are prescribed – all based on Big Pharma-funded medical ghostwriter-prepared journal articles from physicians who fraudulently claim to be the study authors. Then you walk out of your doctor’s office with a prescription for a drug that may or may not kill you, based on treatment protocols written by doctors like Biederman who are on the take from Big Pharma.

A very recent example of the sad reality over at the once-prestigious New England Journal of Medicine is their decision to publish a drug company-funded review article. This review attempts to discredit emerging research suggesting that many years of using Merck’s Fosamax or Procter & Gamble’s Actonel (both osteoporosis drugs in a class called bisphosphonates) could actually result in more leg bone fractures.

Not surprisingly, drug manufacturers of bisphosphonates are fighting back ferociously against this emerging (independent) research.  A Merck-funded review paper published in the NEJM on March 24, 2010 concludes:

“The occurrence of fracture of the subtrochantericor diaphyseal femur was very rare, even among women who had been treated with bisphosphonates for as long as 10 years.”

Sounds promising for Big Pharma. But if you look very, very closely, the article’s fine print confesses:

“The study was underpowered for definitive conclusions.”

You might justifiably ask yourself why a medical journal would stoop to publishing a meaningless scientific paper that the paper’s own authors admit lacks any conclusion. Even more troubling than a journal article that was itself bought and paid for by Merck, is the conflict of interest disclosure list at the bottom of this NEJM article.  It reads like a Who’s Who of Big Pharma.

Of the 12 study authors listed in the NEJM article, at least three are full-time employees of Merck or Novartis. Each one of the other nine admit owning equity interests in or receiving cash, travel expenses, or “consulting and lecture fees” from companies including Merck, Novartis, Amgen, Roche Nycomed, Procter & Gamble, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Medtronics, Nastech, Nestle, Fonterra Brands, OnoPharma, Osteologix, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Sanofi-Aventis, Tethys, Unilever,Unipath, Inverness Medical, Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, OSIProsidion, or Takeda.

Why is the New England Journal of Medicine or any other credible medical journal accepting for publication articles submitted by paid employees of pharmaceutical companies?

As a cardiac patient, I’m gobsmacked by what appears to be this systemic corruption of not only medical journals who continue to publish what they clearly know is tainted research linked to drug marketing, but of the very doctors whom patients trust to look out for us. Since my heart attack in 2008, I take a fistful of cardiac meds every day, and I have no clue which of them were prescribed for me based on flawed research or tainted medical journal articles funded by the very companies that make my drugs.

And worse, neither do my doctors.

Happily, there are other decent physicians out there who, like Dr. Angell, are just as outraged as she is. Her targets are not just guilty of unethical conflict of interest – they are criminals who should be charged with endangering our health while padding their wallets.

Read Dr. Angell’s article from the New York Review of Books, called Drug Companies & Doctors: A Story of Corruption.

* NEWS UPDATE:  “Massachusetts General Hospital Discloses Sanctions against Three Psychiatrists for Violating Ethics Guidelines”, July 1, 2011:   The Boston Business Journal said today that three psychiatrists have been sanctioned for failing to adequately report seven-figure payments they received from drug companies.

Drs. Joseph Biederman, Thomas Spencer and Timothy Wilens disclosed the disciplinary actions against them in a note to colleagues. According to a copy of the note made public upon request by the hospital, the three doctors:

• must refrain from “all industry-sponsored outside activities” for one year

• for two years after the ban ends, must obtain permission from Mass. General and Harvard Medical School before engaging in any industry-sponsored, paid outside activities and then must report back afterward

• must undergo certain training

• face delays before being considered for “promotion or advancement.”

The three doctors have been under the political microscope since June 2008 when Senator Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, began investigating conflicts of interest involving clinicians. Biederman and Wilens have since admitted to accepting $1.6 million from drug companies whose drugs they were promoting; Spencer took $1 million.

Senator Grassley said, according to an online version of the Congressional record:

“These three Harvard doctors are some of the top psychiatrists in the country, and their research is some of the most important in the field. They have also taken millions of dollars from the drug companies.”
