Caleb was born a healthy, if somewhat premature, baby. He was the third child for this mother Shirley and the first for his father Lindsay. They never expected their precious child would soon be fighting for his life.

At just a few days old, Caleb suffered a massive bleed to his brain that left him with cerebral palsy, unable now to sit up, crawl or walk. Caleb also suffers as many as 50 seizures a day. The doctors in New Zealand have told Shirley and Lindsay that if the seizures don’t stop, Caleb will end up with more severe brain damage.

Overseas, stem cell research is showing positive results for those with cerebral palsy. There have been reports of spectacular successes – in at least one case, a blind child suddenly gaining perfect sight.

Caleb’s family decide to travel to the USA and Mexico so Caleb can receive this radical and costly treatment.

60 Minutes meets the family and travels with them on their quest to give young Caleb a better life.
